Research Funding for AI as Artist
New research funding for TEKS:
AI as Artist (Norwegian Arts Council)
TEKS has received funding for the research project AI as Artist, selected as one of eight projects in the Norwegian Arts Council’s new programme Art and Artificial Intelligence. The project is led by Ståle Stenslie, with Zane Cerpina as co-researcher, and explores what happens when AI emerges as a more autonomous and normalized creative agent within artistic production.
The research combines practice-based experiments with theoretical analysis to investigate how the art field and cultural policy can respond to a future in which AI takes on a more independent role. As part of the project, the research team follows an AI-based artist identity that operates as a creative actor.
As Stenslie notes:
“The central issue is not the AI identity itself, but how the investigation is received and responded to by actors within the art field. The project functions as a stress test of the institutional frameworks of artistic practice.”
